Enlightened Brewing Tap Takeover

The Growler Gallery Gurus are so happy to welcome back our friends from Enlightened Brewery to the RAY-borhood. Straight out of Bay View, Tommy Vandervort and James Larson strive to provoke your thought and palate. Their philosophy of beer is to "Keep it simple! We make what we like to drink, and we also love to explore new approaches to tried-and-true styles." As they also say, and we wholeheartedly agree, “Drink it Down, Enlighten Up!” We can't wait to hang with them!

Tap list for the eve:

Mr. Bradford – “A Shift Beer (a style we completely made up). A single-hopped golden ale made with a very simple grain bill. The only hop addition is in the whirlpool right at the end of the brew, meant to keep the bitterness down. It's a no-nonsense refreshing beer after a long day of work. It's the first in our Local Legends series honoring Milwaukee's characters present and past. This one was named for a man named Dick Bacon who became known as Mr. Bradford for his hours spent playing volleyball and getting seriously bronzed at Bradford Beach. He was a former brewery worker and one-time Mr. Nude American trophy winner.” Table Beer, 3.8% ABV

Te Ipsum – “A Sorachi Ace and Centennial Pale Ale. 5.5% ABV, the sorachi ace gives it a delicious herbal/lemon peel character while the Centennial gives it a familiar citrus and bitter quality. It's golden in color and pretty dry.” American Pale Ale, 6.5% ABV

Demonic Tonic – “A Belgian Strong Golden Ale. This beer was made with a Belgian style yeast and light candy sugar. You would never guess that we clocked it at 8.3% ABV. It's dangerously drinkable with just the right amount of fruity esters and even though it finished very dry in fermentation, it has some body to back it up.” Belgian Strong Golden Ale, 8.5% ABV

Barbe Rouge – “A single-hopped pale ale. We made this beer with a rare French hop called "Barbe Rouge", which translates to Red Beard. It's floral and fruity with notes of raspberry in it. The rest of the recipe is straightforward pale ale, slightly bitter with delicate hop characteristics that will reward the discerning palate.” Pale Ale, 5.1% ABV

Prototypical Porter – “Our year-round dark beer that drinks pretty lightly on the palate for being a dark beer with some oats and chocolate to it. It almost has a cola character from the darker caramel malts in it; balance is the name of the game on this beer.” Porter, 5.4% ABV

Centennial Pale Ale – “A single-hopped centennial pale ale inspired by Bells Two-Hearted. It's hard to go wrong with Centennial hops and we wanted to make a pale ale that isolated them. James's first job off his master’s degree was working for Bells, so he's got some experience with the thousands of pounds of Centennial that go into Two-Hearted. Expect some recognizable citrus and floral characters with just enough malt to balance out Centennial's bitterness.” Pale Ale, 4% ABV
